Homeowners still back a broker in their starting line-up
17/06/2026
The third instalment of our Broker Perception Barometer launched on Wednesday 17 June, offering the latest snapshot of homeowners’ perceptions of mortgage brokers.
This quarter’s findings once again highlight the vital role brokers play in supporting customers through the homebuying and remortgaging process.
For the third quarter in a row, almost two thirds of mortgage customers said they couldn’t have gone through the home-buying process without the support of their broker. And, at a time when many customers are navigating rising prices and uncertainty around interest rates, brokers continue to provide much-needed reassurance. More than seven in ten homeowners said brokers are more important than ever. While almost three quarters said having a broker gives them greater confidence in their financial decisions.
The latest findings also show the ongoing value customers place on human advice. When worried about something mortgage related, homeowners are far more likely to turn to their broker than to social media or AI tools. This reinforces the importance of expert, personal support during more complex moments.
And with football fever spreading across the nation this summer, the Barometer also explores how major sporting events could affect mortgage decisions. While some homeowners admitted they may delay mortgage-related decisions until after the tournament, many still expect brokers to remain accessible and proactive if mortgage advice is needed – even during a match.
